Values are powerful tools for creating a life and business you love.

But they are often overlooked and underutilized.

In a world fixated on profit over people, it's tempting to dismiss values as corporate jargon or the stuff of cheesy motivational posters.

However, when harnessed effectively, values can deeply influence our decisions and act as a guiding compass toward a truly fulfilling life.

The Problem

Most people don’t know or fully understand their values.

When you don’t know your values, it's easy to get caught in the relentless pursuit of societal expectations that often leaves you feeling empty and unfilled.

The conditioning starts early:

  • You’re trained to measure success by report cards, not learning and growth.

  • You’re programmed to crave likes and followers over meaningful connections.

  • You’re taught to worship wealth and seek material success over fulfillment.

  • You’re told to prize endless hustle and prioritize productivity over health or time with family.

When we don’t know what truly matters to us, we measure success with someone else’s ruler.

The disconnect between our actions and what we truly value leads to a deep sense of dissatisfaction, stress, and even a loss of identity.

You start to feel trapped in unfulfilling relationships, careers, or lifestyles, unable to break free from the fear of disapproval or failure.

When we fail to prioritize our values, we risk making decisions that are misaligned with what we truly want which can ultimately lead to dissatisfaction and regret.

Why It Matters

Values are deeply held beliefs about what is important, desirable or worthwhile to you.

Knowing your values are essential in defining what success means to you.

Without clear values, it's easy to follow the herd, not our hearts.

Understanding your values gives you a framework for making decisions, setting priorities, and interacting with others.

When we live in alignment with our values, we experience greater fulfillment, improved relationships, and enhanced well-being.1

The opposite is also true.

Betraying your values causes internal tension, stress and frustration.

This friction occurs because you are literally going against what is deeply important to you.

Life happens and sometimes you will fall off track.

When this happens, your values can serve as a compass to point you in the right direction, so you can start getting back on track.

Using your values leads to:

Stronger Identity
Knowing one's values strengthens personal identity and reduces susceptibility to external pressures. Individuals feel more grounded and self-assured.2

Increased Resilience
Individuals grounded in their values navigate adversity better. They manage stress more effectively, bounce back faster, and stay optimistic.3

Improved Decision-Making
Values guide us during tough choices, ensuring our decisions align with our beliefs. This consistency boosts confidence and authenticity in decision-making.

Better Relationships: Values bond people. Aligning with those who share our values creates supportive networks that foster personal growth and success.1

The Personal Impact

Living deeply aligned with your values is the MOST fulfilling life you can live.

Your values become your own personal framework in both big and small decisions.

They can help guide you in career choices, navigate relationships and to help keep focused on what truly matters in what feels like the never ending sea of choices we face today.

Leadership Impact

Values are the backbone of effective leadership. Leaders who prioritize values create a culture of integrity and trust.

By consistently demonstrating and communicating their values, they inspire their teams to do the same. This alignment of values leads to increased employee engagement, improved performance, and a positive reputation for the organization.4

"Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them."

How to Harness the Power of Values

Define Your Core Values: Spend time to reflect on what truly matters most to you. Write down your top values and what they mean to you. Make sure they resonate with you.

Align Your Actions: Once you have identified your values, make a conscious effort to align your decisions and behaviors with them. Use your values as a filter for every choice you make, especially the big ones.

Clarity Through Reflection: Whenever you feel frustrated or upset, take a moment to reflect on which of your personal values might be compromised. Identifying the specific value being challenged provides clarity and helps you navigate the situation in a way that aligns with your core beliefs.

Curate Social Circles: Choose friendships and social groups based on shared values to cultivate a supportive and uplifting environment, enhancing personal growth and mutual respect.

Regularly Assess and Adjust: Periodically review your values to ensure they still resonate with you. As you grow and evolve, your values may shift, and it's important to remain authentic to your current self.
